Kolkata: A youth stabbed his younger brother to death in New Town on Saturday afternoon.

The victim, Raja Mondal alias Swarup (18), used to stay with his elder brother Arup alias Mithun (20) at their home in Sulanguri Charaktala of Mondalpara. At around 1 pm, Arup attacked Swarup with a knife following a heated argument, sources revealed.

He stabbed him on the left side of his chest leaving him in a pool of blood, said Santosh Pandey, deputy commissioner of police (detective department) of the Bidhannagar city police. Swarup was rushed to Apex Nursing Home on VIP Road in Baguiati by the neighbours.

He was, however, declared brought dead there. The body was sent for post-mortem.

According to preliminary investigation, Arup was in a highly intoxicated state while attacking Swarup.

He also scuffled with his brother in courtyard of their home over the issue of addiction, Mr Pandey added. Arup was later arrested by the New Town police under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

He will be produced at the court on Sunday. The blood soaked knife was also seized by the police.
