Kolkata: Continuing her tirade against Narendra Modi’s decision of demonetisation, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said this step will emerge as a big scam and a blunder in the days to come.

“The common people have been made ‘bandi’ (captive) by the decision of ‘note bandi’ (demonetisation). This is a plan that will prove to be a big scam and a great blunder in the days to come,” Ms Banerjee said while inaugurating the Christmas celebration at Allen Park in Park Street.

Elaborating on the impact of he currency ban, Ms Banerjee said that all sectors have been suffering. “The centre is losing its GDP; the state has suffered a loss of 25 per cent revenue in the last one month,” she said.

The chief minister had time and again appealed to the Centre to lessen the huge burden of debt that her government had allegedly owned from the erstwhile Left Front government when it came to power in 2011.

“Somebody has taken a politically whimsical decision and has committed a big mistake making the common people suffer. But how should we forget to celebrate the festivals in our calendar? We have to take this as a challenge and continue celebrating our festivals,” Ms Banerjee said.
