Kolkata: Training guns on the Modi government for scheduling Niti Aayog meeting on the day of Id ul-Fitr earlier chief minister Mamata Banerjee vowed to eliminate hatred and pain in 2019 when the next Lok Sabha Elections is going to be held.

“I had a meeting of Niti Aayog in New Delhi. Reading the letter I found that the meeting was scheduled at 9 am on the day of Id. Writing a letter to the Centre I reminded them that Id is scheduled on that day,” she told the Id congregation at Red Road. Flanked by her cabinet ministers Ms Banerjee elaborated, “I asked whether Eid is not marked in their (Centre) calendar. In our calendar it remains marked always however. I told them if Id is not marked in their calendar, it should be changed. The festival of my Muslim brothers is our festival also.” She added, “I also made it clear I would not skip the Id prayer to attend the meeting. I can not compromise with it. When puja is held here but you invite me somewhere else then I would not go. It can not happen that I would not attend Eid prayer and greet all of you with Id Mubarak.”

Referring to the BJP the Trinamool Congress supremo claimed, “Sometimes I am cursed for loving the Muslims. According to me, if I love the Muslims, dont you love the Hindus? but why do you hate the Muslims? I love all.”

She told the gathering, “If you are prepared for making sacrifice, I am also. But we will not allow anyone, howsoever powerful, to divide the nation. It is our promise. This is 2018. Next year we will bring an end to hatred and pain. We are with you.”
