Kolkata: A senior Indian Navy officer on Friday appealed the private sector to adopt a “long-term outlook” to build products in the public-private partnership for the defence sector in the country. Vice Admiral Soonil Bhokare, Inspector General Nuclear Safety, also called for “augmentation” of the private sector’s quality assurance.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of na-tional seminar and exhibition on Defence Production: Public-Private Partnership — Focus Eastern India’ organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.

Vice Admiral Bhokare said, “I strongly recommend that the industry must maintain a long term outlook. I understand the charities of business driven economies. But I will only urge the industryto not to allow a particular factor which keeps them away from taking defence ord-ers. He said “Our industry feels sometimes that it is subjected to more stringent quality and certification checks than the foreign vendors. I urge the domestic industry to augment their own internal quality and certification framework, and also for the global standards.”
