Kolkata: A young researcher from Uttarpara in Hooghly died under mysterious circumstances in Paris. Snigdhadeep Dey (37) was originally from Bhadrakali area in Uttarpara. He was living as a tenant at a house Rue Jean Miramas in the French capital for the last four years to pursue his post doctoral fellowship on evolution of life and ecology at École Normale Supérieure.

He was a student of Uttarpara Government School from where he passed out with brilliant marks in science. Snigdhadeep was expected to come home in June this year. He had spoken to his family members on February 10. The next day his parents tried to contact him but failed. On February 12 they called up the land lady Nanly Noel who however claimed them that he had died due to cardiac arrest a day before.

According to her, the police was informed in the morning after repeated knocks elicited no response from the rented room of Snigdhadeep as the door was locked from inside. The door was broken by the police for entry. A doctor accompanying the police team declared Snigdhadeep dead with a conclusion that his death was due to cardiac arrest. His family members however did not believe in it.

They said that Snigdhadeep’s friends told them that the body was first seen by his land-lady which suggests that the door was not closed from inside. Snigdhadeep’s wife Payel questionned if he had died on February 11 then why the land-lady did not inform the family despite having the contact numbers. Snigdhadeep married Payel of Chinsurah in December of 2016.

After the wedding Payel stayed here for some time before flying to Paris last year. On December 5 she returned and gave birth to a daughter the next day. Payel said she is in shock and she fails to understand how her husband could suffer cardiac arrest while he never had any such symptoms.
