Kolkata: Family members of a patient fought with officials of a private hospital in New Alipore following his death, which they said was due to medical negligence. Bijoy Kumar Kurmi (63) from Zinjirabazar died at B.P.Poddar Hospital on Saturday morning. He had taken admission there on August 5 with nerve disorder.

His family members claimed that his condition did not improve even after they paid a bill of around Rs 20 lakh in two rounds for treatment there. According to the patient's son Sanjoy, his father had earlier been admitted at the same hospital for nearly a month.

The aged man was discharged almost without any treatment, his family said. When his condition worsened, his relatives admitted him there again hoping that he would get cured. This time Kurmi underwent dialysis even though he suffered from a nervous disorder, Sanjoy added.

The relatives came to blows with the hospital staff and tussled with the police personnel.
