West Bengal: National-level swimmer goes missing from pool

Kolkata: A former national-level swimmer and a senior trainer on Friday allegedly went missing while swimming at a swimming pool in the central part of the city’s College Street area, the police said. While onlookers said that sexagenarian Kajal Dutta, who has been associated as a senior trainer as well as a lifesaver, was swimming in the pool on Friday morning at around 8 am but he was not seen coming out of the water, a senior officer of Kolkata police said.

Trainers and lifesavers at the swimming club tried searching for Dutta in the waters after which a team from local police station at Ahmerst Street and Kolkata police disaster management group initiated a search, he said.

“At least 10 divers were conducting a thorough search for Dutta since morning but we are unable to locate him,” the officer said. “He has been a very good swimmer. We are not sure how come this mishap incident has happened today. We are shocked,” a senior member of the swimming club said.
