Kolkata: Protesting against attack on them in the run-up to the panchayat elections in West Bengal, journalists today took out a procession here demanding justice.

The procession started from the Gandhi statue at Mayo road and terminated at Dharmatala.

Some of the journalists carried posters saying, “We want justice” while other placards read, “We are not afraid” and “Freedom is our right”.

Media and Journalist’s Welfare Association (India) has complained to the South 24 Paraganas District Magistrate that many scribes were attacked while covering the nomination filing process on April 9 at Alipore.

In a letter to the DM yesterday, it said that several reporters and cameramen, along with a photo journalist, came under attack when they were covering the election nomination exercise.

The Association also said that all of them sustained injuries and a few anti-socials had snatched accessories like cameras and electronic gadgets of the photo journalist, and requested the DM to take necessary action against the culprits.
