Submarine wing of Navy to get ‘President’s Colours’

Ahead of the ‘President’s Colours’ ceremony another event has alsobeen lined up by the Indian Navy in Vizag.

Kolkata: President Ram Nath Kovind, who is also the supreme commander of the Indian armed forces, will award the ‘President’s Colours’ to the submarine wing of the Indian Navy on the occasion of the branch’s golden jubilee celebrations this year, Flag Officer commanding-in-chief of the Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht informed on Sunday. 

“In December the President will attend the 50th year celebrations of the Navy’s submarine wing in Vizag. He will accord the President’s Colours to the wing,” he told the media at the INS Netaji Subhas where an eight ft bronze statue of great freedom fighter Nataji Subhas Chandra Bose was unveiled by him in presence of Prof. Krishna Bose, Netaji’s niece-in-law and chairperson of the Netaji Research Bureau.

Speaking at the event Prof. Bose praised the navy’s effort to place the freedom fighter’s statue at its installation that is also named after him. “I can not tell you how happy I am today. It is an impressive statue which will inspire all of us about Netaji’s message: sacrifice.” Kamal Mondal, a sculptor from Fathepur at Falta in South 24 Parganas, said he built the statue over the last our months. 

Ahead of the ‘President’s Colours’ ceremony another event has alsobeen lined up by the Indian Navy in Vizag. 

Vice-admiral Bisht said that the Navy’s Tupolev-142M anti-submarine warfare aircraft, which was de-inducted this year after a prolonged service, would be installed in different shapes and sizes in front of the Kursura submarine museum at R.K. Beach. 

“The idea is to place the hunter and the hunted face to face. Considering its size the aircraft would be de-assembled before would be showcased in front of the museum either this month end or next month,” Vice-admiral Bisht added.
