Central government deploys 770 companies of CAPF for polls

Kolkata: In a rare move to ensure security arranagements ahead of the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections in West Bengal, the Central government has deployed 770 companies of the Central armed police forces (CAPF) and state armed police (SAP) personnel.

Eight parliamentary constituencies: Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur will go to polls on May 12.

The 770 companies have been drawn from the Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, Central Industrial Security Force, SAP, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Railway Protection Force. Out of the 770 companies, 743 companies are deployed for polling duties and 27 companies for strong room duties, the BSF said in a statement on Friday.

It added, “The BSF is contributing in maximum deployment of 241 companies. To sensitize the area and to create sense of security among local population the CAPF is carrying out area domination/sensitization patrolling. Troops of various CAPF including large number of BSF troops carried out flag march in their area of responsibilities in the parliamentary constituencies.”
