Kolkata: Tightening the noose around retired IPS officer Bharati Ghosh, the criminal investigation department (CID) has issued arrest warrants against her and her former security staff Sujit Mondal, a police constable, following a district court’s order into the recovery of alleged unaccounted wealth in cash and gold.

The state detective agency’s move came after the additional chief judicial magistrate of Ghatal Sub-Divison Court in West Midnapore ordered the arrest warrants in the morning as Ms Ghosh did not appear before the CID at its headquarters, Bhawani Bhavan, despite summons. Sources close to her claimed that she has been out of state.

However, according to the CID, the ex-IPS officer has been on the run. Mondal is also absconding. The CID has fanned out its teams in different states in search of Ms Ghosh.

According to sources, the ex-IPS officer spent some time in New Delhi before travelling to Jamnagar in Gujarat.

She later returned to New Delhi, sources claimed adding that why she visited Gujarat was not clear, however.

The Court’s order and arrest warrants came a day after the CID arrested two cops — inspector Subhankar De and sub inspector Chitta Pal — who were known to be close to Ms Ghosh in an extortion case.

Mr Pal was the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Ghatal police station while Mr De was his immediate superior officer at the post of the circle inspector (Ghatal). Both were produced at the Ghatal court which has remanded them in the police custody on Saturday after rejecting their plea for bail.

Meanwhile a CID team raided the residences of Rajshekhar Pyne, also learnt to be close to Ms Ghosh.
