Kolkata: People who long for a glimpse of Royal Bengal Tiger in the Sunderbans have an opportunity at hand.

Starting from Friday, the city will hold an unique exhibition of breathtaking and fascinating behaviour of Royal Bengal Tigers of Sunderbans through photographs at ICCR auditorium. State tourism minister Goutam Deb inaugurated the photo exhibition titled ‘Dakshinray er Biswajatra’  that displays 40 pictures of Royal Bengal Tigers  in different moods. (Royal Bengal Tigers are called dakshinray by the people in Sunderabans).

“People in the country visit Ranthmabore, Bandhabgarh, Corbett and some other places for spotting tigers. But they give Sunderbans a miss complaining that they hardly catch a glimpse of tigers in Sunderbans. Our intention is to shatter this myth. and thereby promote Bengal tourism,” Soumyajit Nandi who has photographed the tigers said. Soumyajit and his two friends Dibyendu Ash and Tamanud Mishra left their jobs to start Going Wild in October  2012 to nurture thier interest in wildlife tourism and photography.

Lauding the initiative, tourism minister Goutam Deb said, “My department has supported this exhibition as we always  believe that government alone cannot promote tourism. We hope  efforts like these will encourage people to visit  the mangrove forest.” The exhibition will continue till Sunday.

Going Wild has plans to take this exhibition to places with Delhi being their next destination.
