Garment factory, jute mill gutted

Kolkata: Fire broke out in two separate incidents in Howrah’s Shibpur area on Thursday, police said, adding that no one was injured. Five fire tenders were pressed into service at Fort William Jute Mill. Officials were yet to ascertain the cause of the fire or the extent of damage.

In a separate incident, another fire broke out at a garment factory near Shibpur police station. State ministers Sovan Chatterjee and Arup Roy went to the spot with senior district and police officials to oversee the operation.
