EPIL manager faces CBI heat over Rs 1.5 crore bribe

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated two separate cases against the manager of Engineering Projects India Ltd. (EPIL) for allegedly accepting bribe of around Rs 1.5 crore from two separate companies for awarding them contracts for public works Kolkata and Tripura.

The accused, Paritosh Kumar Praveen, was posted as the manager at EPIL in New Delhi.

On Saturday, the CBI said in a statement that while the alleged demanded a bribe of around Rs 1.5 crore was associated with the cases, nearly Rs 50 lakh were routed through various companies and individuals related to the accused.

The CBI said, “In the first instance, the accused officer allegedly obtained illegal gratification from a proprietor (also an accused & resident of Kolkata) of Construction Company based at Ambedkar Nagar (UP) for building project in, New Town, Kolkata Development Authority.”

The CBI statement added, “In the second case, it was alleged that the illegal gratification was obtained from another accused, a director of a construction company based at Guwahati (Assam) for public works at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Tripura Power Company, Udaipur, Tripura.”

The CBI conducted searches in more than eight states which included more than a dozen locations. These places included Lucknow, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Kolkata, Guwahati, Udaipur (Tripura), Bhubaneshwar, Raurkela and Delhi. The significant information and evidence that emerged during these searches are being examined for further investigation, according to the CBI.
