Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has unearthed a racket dealing with adulteration of edible oil and has arrested the owner of an oil mill, which is based in Shantipur in Nadia district.
The raid was conducted on the basis of a source information at the oil mill “Rahul Enterprise” at Gobindapur Bazar area and the sleuths seized huge cache of adulterated edible oil from there. “The accused Nripen Sarkar used to mix palm oil with mustard oil and sell the same in the name of branded oil companies and also in the name of his own brand ‘Rahul’. An oil tanker loaded with 19.695 MT refine palm oil with its challan, a Tata 407 loaded with 120 tins of mustard oil as per challan, and another vehicle along with its driving license in the name of one Samar Karmakar was seized,” deputy inspector general (DIG), CID (operations) Nishat Parvez said.
Sleuths have also recovered 500 tin containers filled with soyabean oil, 900 tin containers filled with palm oil and 500 tin containers filled with rice oil with seal of Rahul Rice oil and the brand name of other different companies.
The CID has also stumbled upon two iron punching machines, and several seals bearing the name of Rahul soyabean oil, palm oil and rice oil respectively.
“A case has been initiated at Shantipur police station under section 420 IPC 7(1)(a)(ii) The Essential Commodity Act, section 78/79 of Trade and Marchendise Mark Act 1951 and section 63 of Copy Right Act has been started. We are looking for other members of the racket,” a senior CID officer said.
