Kolkata: CPI(M) state secretary Surjyakanta Mishra on Sunday accused the BJP and Trinamul Congress of indulging in politics of polarisation over the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), even as Left Front chairman Biman Bose cautioned that no Indians should be left out of the NRC.

According to Dr Mishra, the Trinamul and the BJP, which are two sides of the same coin, have been pretending to fight with each other before the public for their political interests. Mr Bose demanded the inclusion of the 40 lakh people who have been excluded from the final draft of the NRC in Assam.

“It was the BJP and Trinamul which had first demanded it. 2005 should not be forgotten. She (Trinamul supremo Mamata Banerjee) was then in the NDA Cabinet. Apart from that, whatever she had said has been in the records. This attempt is nothing new. It is a long time effort of the BJP,” Dr Mishra alleged. “I can refer to instances 40 years ago when they tried to do such a thing. But they have not got even an inch of ground in West Bengal except the courtesy of our chief minister. She (Ms Banerjee) has introduced this idea in West Bengal. What is the benefit of making tall talks now,” he claimed.

Slamming the Trinamul chief, the former CPI(M) minister argued, “She is doing it just for the sake polarisation so that it looks like the Trinamul and BJP are locked in a fight between themselves. But they have been in the same page. Now for petty political gains she is doing it.”

Mr Bose said, “We want all the Indians to be registered in the NRC. The 40 lakh Indians who have been excluded in Assam should be included in the NRC.”
