West Bengal CM pulls up Nadia cops over killings
I am against the killing of workers of any political party. I do not believe that the police do not know who have committed such crimes.

Kolkata: Expressing displeasure over the poor performance of the Nadia district police in tackling crime and law and order, chief minister Mamata Banerjee publicly pulled it up at her administrative meeting in the district at Krishnanagar on Friday.
“In recent times, there has been a number of murders and important Trinamul Congress workers have been killed. I am against the killing of workers of any political party. I do not believe that the police do not know who have committed such crimes. You have to arrest the criminals irrespective of their political affiliation,” Ms Banerjee said.
She personally addressed officers in charge of a number of police stations, including those of Hanskhali, Chopra, Ranaghat, Nabadwip etc. and questioned their inefficiency in policing. “Killing and dacoity are not happening in any other district. It is a discredit for the Nadia police. People are coming from outside and committing murders,” she said as the director general of police Surajit Kar Purakayastha stood by her side.
She directed the police to take strong measures like strengthening vigil at the borders to prevent cross-border crime including smuggling of gold and fake currencies in all vulnerable areas along the Bangladesh border. “Take the help of civic volunteers or the local clubs if required, and contain crimes in your areas. I am keeping a watch at everything,” the chief minister said. She advised the police officers to increase patrolling in the streets without confining themselves to the police stations. The chief minister also blamed “three promoting entities” for being responsible for the stir at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas that had stalled work of a power sub-station project.
“The power sub-station project had almost been completed. Out of 28 towers, 24 were erected. But three promoting entities, who wanted to build multi-storeyed buildings near the sub-station, had indulged in the conspiracy,” she said. She accused them of hiring anti-social elements from outside, and offering them cash to create disturbance at the power sub-station project.
“My government has been working to deal with the problems of low voltage in power supply and that was why the sub-stations were being set up across districts,” she said, blaming opposition parties like the BJP, CPI(M) and others including Maoists for trying to create disturbance in some areas where such power projects were coming up.
