Kolkata: A sub-inspector (SI) was closed after a video of him dancing in uniform and service weapon in tune of a Hindi song inside a police station went viral on Sunday. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against Krishnasadhan Mondal, the accused SI.

Another cop Bibekananda Chatterjee, an assistant sub-inspector, has also been closed alongwith Mr Mondal at the district police line. He also faces a departmental inquiry.

Close is a departmental term in police parlance which is exercised when a cop is taken off from the place of his duty as punishment after he is involved in an offence and he is asked to report at the office of his superior.

Mr Mondal was earlier posted at the Hirapur police station in Asansol of Burdwan which falls under the Asansol Durgapur police commissionerate.

Mr Chatterjee is still posted there. On November 30, Mr Mondal was transferred to the Chittaranjan police station.

Sources claimed that his colleagues requested him for a dance performance which he readily accepted for entertainment before leaving the police station.

Matching steps with ‘Tukur Tukur Dekhte Ho Kya’ Mr Mondal, who is said to be fond of music, started dancing with his service revolver in the holster in his waist in front of the lock-up. His male and female colleagues were seen laughing and clapping to encourage him.

Mr Chatterjee’s offence was that he was present among them and cheered Mr Mondal, sources revealed.
