Kolkata: Grammy-nominated composer and sitarist Anoushka Shankar says she has explored a different medium by working for Shiraz: A Romance of India, a restored silent era movie where she has done a special live score.

“Shiraz gives me a rewarding and fulfilling experience. It is a different medium from my previous music albums,” Anoushka told reporters here on Thursday evening before screening of the 1928-film.

“It is a different medium and I have not done before. It is challenging for a musician. The experience again reminds me of the value of Indian classical music,” she said.

“As music touches our lives, I am happy this is going to connect with the modern audience,” she said.

As part of the UK-India year of the culture, 2017, the first screening of Shiraz was done in Hyderabad and after Kolkata, further show will take place in Delhi and Mumbai.

The British Council and the British Film Institute (BFI) had earlier announced that after the 61st British Film Institute  London Film Festival world premiere of the movie at the Barbican on October 14, the film would tour four Indian cities.
