Kolkata: Five persons including four members of a family were killed in a road accident at Kharagpur in West Midnapore early on Sunday morning.

The family were travelling in a car which lost control and rammed into a trailer before rolling into a waterbody at Basantapur.

The car was coming from Dharinda in Tamluk.

The accident took place after the car had crossed the toll plaza at Debra on the national highway no 6. The Kolkata police suspect that the car driver may have fallen asleep while driving which led to the mishap.

The victms were Tarun Pakhira (52), his wife Atasi (46), the couple’s elder son Soumyakanti (19) and younger son and the car-driver.

Some villagers alerted the Kolkata police after finding the car in the waterbody.

The bodies of the family members and the car-driver were taken out of the car later. They were declared brought dead at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. The five bodies were sent for post-mortem.
