Kolkata: Air Mauritius is planning to increase the number of its flights between India and Mauritius to boost tourism. This was announced by Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) director Arvind Bundhun during a tourism roadshow organised by MTPA in the city.

Calling for increase in air connectivity between the two countries to boost tourism, he stressed that air connectivity is a must to attract a large number of tourists from any country. Mr Bundhun however pointed out that there is only one carrier that flies directly to Mauritius from India.

This needs to increase considering the growth from the Indian market, he noted. Mr Bundhun said, “There is scope for one more airline to fly to Mauritius directly from India very soon considering the growth in Indians travelling to the Island.”

Elaborating future plans he added, “Air Mauritius plans to add more flights to cater to the increasing capacity. We can see the growing interest in the aviation sector and are willing to support any Indian carrier willing to fly to Mauritius.”

According to MTPA country manager Vivek Anand, “India is one of the most promising tourism markets. In 2019, we will continue showcasing ‘Mauritius Beyond the Beach.’
