Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadanvis on Thursday assured that the farm loan waiver scheme meant for farmers would continue till all farmers are covered under it and the amount is credited to their respective bank accounts.

Winding up a two-day marathon debate initiated by the Opposition leader in the state assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and group leader Ajit Pawar (NCP) among others, Mr Fadnavis said the state government was committed to the welfare of every farmer.

The CM said that they had initially received 77 lakh applications for loan waiver. The state sought the Income Tax department’s help to find out the number of  I-T tax payers who do not need loan waivers. “Three lakh applications were rejected, including state government employees,” Mr Fadnavis said.

Mr Fadnavis said that only 43.16 lakh bank accounts of the farmers were found to be eligible loan waiver. “After the loan waiver, the respective farmers will be provided with a certificate,” he added.

A whopping Rs 20,734 crore has already been credited in the accounts. “Out of the 43 lakh, the loan waiver applications were to the tune of 28.97 lakh and 14 lakh from incentives,” he said.
