Gurgaon: Haryana chief minister Mr Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday called on “Pravasi Haryanavis” to contribute to the development of the state and connect with their roots. Speaking at the first-ever “Pravasi Haryana Divas”, the chief minister also announced the formation of two special NRI cells to redress grievances, complaints and investment-related queries.

“The grievance redressal cell would deal with their complaints, the second would be to facilitate investment and take suggestions from them. The establishment of these cells will streamline inquiry and action taking process,” added Mr Khattar.

A helpline number 8968420002 and email nricellharyana@gmail.com has also been created for them. The NRIs can contact the NRI cell for business queries, investment interest and any other suggestion too. The NRIs can email at kartik.das@investindia.org.in, call on 9205192101 or log on to investharyana.nic.In for investment-related queries.

In an effort to improve ease of doing business in the state, Mr Manohar Lal pointed out that the his government had changed more than 300 laws, rules and procedures in less than four months. “Haryana is now among the top five states in India in ease of doing business as per the World Bank’s ranking,” he said, while exhorting the Pravasi Haryanvis to offer their co-operation and invest in the state government. Mr Khattar said that following the mandate given by the people of the state upon a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to undo many prevailing social ills, the Haryana government achieved success in many areas. These include allowing only educated people to contest for panchayati raj institutions and have a functional toilet at home.

The Haryana government has also been able to improve the sex ratio at birth in the state, which crossed the 900-mark for the first time in several decades, the chief minister said. The government has ensured that all 21 districts have one mahila thana each to ensure safety of women, he said.

The colourful celebrations, that began at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon on Tuesday, are being attended by more than 400 Pravasi Haryanavis from various countries. The events are part of Golden Jubille celebrations 50 years of its formation after it was carved out from Punjab on November 1,1966.

The Haryana government also facilitated several sportspersons, including Vijender Singh, Geeta and Babita Phogat at the event. Union steel minister Chaudhary Birender Singh and textiles minister Smriti Zubin Irani were also present at the occasion.
