Nashik: A staffer of the remand home allegedly raped a 7-years-old boy, where he was housed in Manmad town in the Nandgaon tehsil of the Nashik district on Wednesday. A case has been registered against the accused, Sanjay Vithal Potinde (38) and he has been ordered to be in police custody for four days.

The minor appeared to be very scared, according to sources. He had told another employee that the accused used to make him to do ‘something dirty’. Potinde used to allegedly take him to the kitchen at night while everyone was asleep and remove his clothes, the survivor complained.

This made the employee promptly inform his superiors who called the officials of the Women and Childcare Committee. A case was then registered against Potinde, who was later arrested in the early hours of Thursday. Investigating officer PSI Chhaya Patil said that this was the first such case recorded in the remand home and that further investigation was going on.

When found on the Manmad railway station a few days back, the boy was brought to the remand home, which houses juvenile offenders, runaways, and lost children, to stay till his parents were found.
