New Delhi: In a suspected case of a rivalry between two families, a 45-year-old woman and her relative were allegedly shot dead by unidentified men in southwest Delhi’s Shikarpur village area on Thursday afternoon.

The duo- Meena Dhankhad and Sharad- were reportedly passing from a unmetal road and were going from Shikarpur village to Gurgaon on a scooty when the men intercepted their two wheeler and opened fire. The men fled leaving behind the two dead on the spot. The deceased were native of Jhajjar village in Haryana.

According to the police, both Meena and Sharad sustained two bullet wounds each on their stomach and chest. They were shot at close range.

The area is deserted and there was no one around when the incident happened. It is only around 3.40 pm when a passerby saw the two, lying on the ground, bleeding, when he made the PCR call,” a senior police officer said.

“A police team reached the spot and rushed the two to the hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. Their families have been informed and bodies have been sent for a postmortem examination,” he added.

Investigators are probing other reasons that could be result of double murder. Meena’s son, one Anshul had allegedly gunned down a youth, Dinesh, in the month of February, when he was on his way to Roshanpura on his scooter.

Dinesh, who had several cases of murder and robbery registered against him, was shot in the forehead and the incident was also captured in a CCTV camera. Anshul, has been absconding since. “Meena was Anshul’s mother so it appears that someone from the rival gang killed her in a similar fashion to avenge Dinesh’s murder. A police team has been sent to Haryana for investigation,” a police source said.

There was no CCTV or any eyewitnesses as the incident happened near farm fields, added the police source.  “A case of murder has been registered against the unknown persons,” added a senior police officer.
