Inter-state auto lifters’ gang busted

The police recovered 28 stolen luxurious cars and claimed to solve 50 cases of motor vehicles thefts.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi police has busted an inter-state gang of auto-lifters who used hi-tech equipments to steal cars. Five persons have been arrested in this regard.

The police recovered 28 stolen luxurious cars and claimed to solve 50 cases of motor vehicles thefts. The gang operated in Delhi, Haryana, Gujrat, Punjab, Rajasathan and Northeast states.

The accused, identified as Narender Singh, 49, Lal Bahadur alias Sillu, 39, Vijay Dhaiya alias Johny all are residents of Rohtak, Haryana, Sarik, 28, a resident of Meerut, UP and Sonu, 29, a resident of Karnal, Haryana. They are the receivers and carriers of cars to North East region.

A Hyundai car was stolen on July 30 this year from Subhash Nagar, Delhi and the police team (crime) received a tip about the thieves of the above stolen car who were active in the area of Delhi and NCR.

The police team closely scrutinised the modus operandi of the auto-lifters and zeroed in on the movement of the gang. On December 15, the accused were coming from Meerut Cantt. They were found in possession of a Scorpio Car with a fake number plate.

The same was stolen on November 20 from Hari Nagar, Delhi. On the instance of accused persons another Scorpio Car bearing same fake number plate was recovered from Meerut by Pass reported to be stolen on  December 15 from Sultanpuri, Delhi.

During interrogation, the accused Narender said he used the Scorpio’s documents to get the number.
