New Delhi: Delhi-NCR has been put under high alert in view of the pronouncement of the quantum of sentence on Monday in Haryana’s Rohtak against convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

“We request citizens to refrain themselves from any kind of rumor mongering or fake messages that are already been circulated on various social media platforms. We have deployed additional forces in sensitive areas and more police personnel have been put on standby to counter any adverse situation,” said a senior police official.

The Dera chief’s conviction in Panchkula on Friday had sparked violent protests by his supporters in the capital. Atleast two buses were torched in protests in the city. Meanwhile, Ghaziabad district administration has ordered closure of all schools in the district in view of the violence in neighbouring Haryana. However, schools in Noida will remain open.

Also, seven Amity schools in Delhi, Vasundhara, Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad will be closed on Monday along with the university. “In the interest of students, Amity University Noida will remain closed on Monday as a precautionary measure,” Amity University spokesperson Savita Mehta said. A meeting was held with police officials of Noida and Ghaziabad over security measures on the borders.

“All patrolling vehicles of the Delhi police have been instructed to be vigilant and respond swiftly in case of any distress call. Police personnel in civil dresses have been deployed at bus stands and railway stations. All routes connecting the city to other states have been barricaded and strict checking will be enforced,” he added.

However, Noida and Ghaziabad police officials said that they were keeping tab on the situation. In Ghaziabad, thousands of followers of Ram Rahim live in a camp in Nang Gram and Karhera.
