New Delhi: The city government on Saturday held pre-exam parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) for parents whose children study in Classes 9 to 12. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia visited various schools across the city and interacted with the parents.

During the visit, the deputy CM said, “The key to better academic performance lies in effective parent-teacher partnership. After our government initiated the first Mega PTM two years ago, PTMs have become a part of the government school experience. Today’s PTM was specifically aimed at parents of children in higher classes, so that parents could be encouraged to work with their children on exam preparation, in a sensitive manner. I am happy to see that PTMs have become part of the culture in our schools.”

The government had invited parents to meet with their children teachers before the Board examination for Classes 10 and 12 and the year-end exams for Classes 9 and 10. Mr Sisodia visited Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, West Vinod Nagar, Govt Co-ed Seondary School IP Extension, Rajkiya Prat-ibha Vikas Vidyalaya IP Extension, among others.

The teachers took parents and children through evaluated answer papers from the Pre-Board examination. “Parents were explained the strengths and weaknesses of their children and suggested home exercises that parents and children can do together for preparing for the Board examination. The Board examination is a crucial milestone for children in the current system, and it is important for parents to be involved in the academic progress of their children,” the statement added.

The regular parent-teacher meetings have resulted in increased parental attention to children at home and a corresponding improvement in academic performance, it added.
