New Delhi: Over 2,000 AIIMS doctors went on a hunger strike from Thursday in protest against the “improper implementation” of the 7th central pay commission’s recommendations.

The doctors said they will not hamper the facilities for patients and will continue working, but without consuming food.

“We have remained silent for a long time, hoping for a response from the Union health ministry. But there has been a complete lack of constructive steps taken by the ministry. Being a responsible citizen and a doctor we will not hamper the facilities for patients. In our further action to put our demands forward we will work continuously without consuming food,” former AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) president Vijay Kumar said.

The doctors also said that the institute will be “solely responsible” if any of the residents get cross infected in the process of delivering their duties while on hunger strike.
