New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly, Vijender Gupta on Thursday alleged that the Delhi government has done injustice to two crore residents of the capital living under the jurisdiction of East, North and South Delhi Municipal Corporations by stopping plan allocation in urban development and transport sectors for the current fiscal year.

Mr Gupta claimed that the drastic cut has been made to financially stifle the three civic bodies so that they are crippled not to undertake any development work and earn a bad name for non-performance. He said it has been done with an eye on the 2019 general elections to spoil the image of BJP, which rules all the three local bodies.

“BJP will meet L-G and urge him to direct the government to restore the denied funds. If required, we will go to the Delhi high court for justice,” said Mr Gupta.

Stating that ever since AAP lost to BJP in the civic elections, he said the ruling government is taking revenge on the people who voted it to power.

“It is the first budget after the BJP came to power in local bodies after defeating the AAP. Therefore, the AAP government is now using budget allocation as a tool to harass us,” he said.

The AAP’s move is callous as it will cripple services such as door-to-door collection of garbage, maintenance of sanitary landfill sites, tipper-truck services, segregation of garbage, development and woks in JJ Clusters etc,” Mr Gupta added.

He said the impact of denial of finances by the government can be gauged from the fact that during 2017-18, these bodies received an allocation of `1228.42 crore.
