New Delhi: Afraid of being caught, two kidnappers killed a seven-year-old boy after pushing him into the Yamuna river. The Delhi police on Sunday arrested two persons in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder case.

The arrested persons were identified as Vikas, who is the main conspirator, and his accomplice, Laxman.

The police said that on February 20 at around 6 pm, while the minor boy was playing near his house in the Karawal Nagar area, the two men approached him. Since Vikas lived near the boy’s house, they knew each other. The duo kidnapped the boy on the pretext of treating him with chocolate and ice-cream.

In the meantime, the kid’s family approached the local police and based on the missing complaint, the police registered a case at the Karawal Nagar police station.

Meanwhile, the accused took the kid to a nearby stall from where they boarded an autorickshaw and went to the Mori Gate area and tried to find a place to hide him. However, unable to find a roof, the accused thought of taking the child to the Kashmere Gate bus terminal. They had planned to make the child board a bus to his home.

While waiting for the bus, one of the accused asked the kid his father’s mobile number which he correctly recalled. Scared that the kid, who could recognise Vikas, would tell his family, the duo took the boy to the Kashmere Gate bridge and pushed him in the river.

Later on February 23, the kidnappers made a ransom call to the boy’s father, who works at a pharmacy. The two demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh for the child’s safe return and instructed the father to keep the money in an open field near their home.

During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed that they committed the crime as they were under debt.
