New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Syed Mohammad Imran, the son-in-law of former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who had been arrested by the Delhi police following a misappropriation of property case lodged against him by his wife Latika.

Special NDPS judge Deepak Garg granted bail to Imran by directing him to furnish a bail bond of Rs two lakh with a surety of like amount. The court also directed the investigating official (IO) of the case to file a comprehensive report on rival contention of the matter. The IO has to file it before the concerned magisterial court prior to the next date of hearing.

During the hearing, the police also told the court that they had added section 307 (attempt to commit murder) of IPC in the FIR. The court has also asked the co-accused to join the investigation whenever the police would call her.

According to the prosecution, Imran was arrested for allegedly misappropriating property belonging to his wife, stealing from her, and committing adultery. The victim has also accused her estranged husband Imran of subjecting her to violence, almost choking her to death on one occasion. After lodging the case, the police had arrested Imran from Bengaluru. In her complaint, Latika has also named a female relative of hers who has also been booked in the case as a co-accused. She had approached the police in June.

Imran and Latika got married in 1996 and have been living separately for the past few months. In her purported statement to the police, the victim has claimed that Imran’s behaviour changed since her mother lost elections when he turned aggressive and rude, something that rocked her marriage.

She has alleged in her complaint that her husband has an illicit relationship with the co-accused.
