Cops bust scholarship scam, five accused held

New Delhi: The sleuths of Delhi police crime branch busted a major scholarship scam of the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT). An ex-employee, along with five other accused, has been arrested. The accused had reportedly misappropriated over Rs 50 lakh of scholarship amount, said ACP (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan on Friday.

A crime branch team comprising of 12 policemen under the close supervision of DCP Bhisham Singh and ACP Aditya Gautam arrested Sandip and Vishnu. Later at their instance, four more accused persons were also arrested.

The arrested accused were identified as Sandip Kumar (33), Vishnu Prasad Tiwari (30), Jay Prakash Pal (19), Prosanta Mondal (41), Koushik Sinha Roy (35), and Chandra Prakash Mishra (26).

The fraud to the tune of Rs 37.25 lakh was committed by ex-employee Sandip Kumar, who had worked as a programmer on contractual basis for the last 7 years in CCRT.
