Woman held for throwing acid on her sister-in-law

The police said that they are investigating the matter and trying to arrest the absconding accused.

New Delhi: The Delhi police has arrested a woman for throwing acid on her sister-in-law over a property dispute between the families in Mangolpuri. The victim suffered burn injuries.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (Outer) Rajender Singh Sagar said that the accused, identified as Nazmeen, was arrested under Section 326A (voluntarily causing hurt using acid) of the IPC. The woman's husband, Shamsuddin, and his two brothers are absconding.

Initial probe revealed that the two families had a long-standing property dispute. On Friday, Shamsuddin threw an acid-like substance on the victim.

According to the information, on Friday night, Shabnam Siddiqui (30), a resident of Mangolpuri, was attacked with acid when she went to the market by her brother-in-law Shamsuddin and his wife Nazmeen along with her two brothers.

"After thrashing her, they tried to throw acid on her face and even tried to forcefully pour acid inside her mouth. This is not the first time, they have done attacked me. In the past, they made threatening calls and when that did not get any result, they accused Shabnam's husband of trying to rape Nazmeen,” said Shakeela, a relative.

The victim was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and was given primary medical aid and later referred to Coronary Care Unit (C CU) at RML Hospital. The hospital stated that she sustained 10 per cent acid burns on her body and minor injuries on the back.

The police said that they are investigating the matter and trying to arrest the absconding accused.
