New Delhi: Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has told Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) that it has fortified night shelters with CCTV cameras. In order to make night shelters safer for women, 57 CCTV cameras have been installed in 19 women-only shelters, the DUSIB said.

The board said that it has installed CCTV cameras in night shelters in order to ensure safety of the women and girls at the shelters and also to keep a vigilant check on the visitors there.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal, along with a team of the commission, had visited several night shelters last year and had pointed out several anomalies in security measures there.

The commission had issued notices to the department and recommended it to take requisite steps to ensure the safety and security of women in the shelters.

“After several notices issued by the commission, DUSIB informed the DCW that it has installed 93 CCTV cameras at 31 night shelters. Out of these, 57 cameras have been installed at 19 women shelters,” said a DCW statement.

The women at the night shelter near the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib had apprised the DCW chief of the non-availability of safety measures and other security concerns at the shelter when she visited them last year.

The DCW had also ensured legal action against the molesters at the night shelter.
