New Delhi: Declaring that ‘development’ will be the party’s core issue in the upcoming municipal elections in the Capital, the Delhi Congress launched a slogan, ‘Toot gayi vikas ki dore, vapas chalo Congress ki ore’ for the polls.

The slogan was launched as part of the party’s campaign. Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said the party’s chose this slogan, as on one hand the people of Delhi are fed up with the 10-year rule of  the BJP, while on the other hand, the two-year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party government saw a total stagnation in  development.

Mr Maken further said the party will announce the candidates for the civil polls after taking feedback from booth-level Congress workers of prospective candidates in each ward.

The Congress leader also said that the work was in full swing for the elections. “The Delhi Election Commission should immediately announce the women and reserve wards so that the MCD elections could be held on time.”

The announcements took place in the presence of other state leaders, Sharmistha Mukherjee, spokesperson Pooja Bahri, leader of the Opposition in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation Farhad Suri, Jagpravesh, Chattar Singh and Aman Panwar.

Mr Maken also said that he had conducted two detailed meetings to commence the prepartion for the three-way battle. He said the first meeting was held with the newly-appointed observers for the polls and the second meetings with all the block and district presidents.  He said 18 observers have been appointed for all the 14 districts and 103 observers for all the 70 Assembly constituencies. The party has started the process of inviting applications of candidates for the polls.
