New Delhi: Student bodies in the Delhi University have started making efforts towards utilising various social media platforms, even as Delhi University Students Union (Dusu) polls are scheduled for September 12.

To reach out to a wider audience, the candidates are making use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Like every year, the DUSU polls will see major political parties contesting the student union body polls.

Apart from campaigning through posters and spray-painting their names on walls, the students organisations affiliated to political parties are also using the social media platforms as an important tool to woo
the students.

Last year, the National Green Tribunal ordered the DU to ensure that no paper was used for campaigning on campuses.

“The unions are trying to reduce the use of paper in this election. So, they are making use of FB and Twitter to reach out to students. They have to engage with voters on social media as most voters are active on these sites,” a DU source said,

Meanwhile, the varsity has released the official schedule of the DUSU polls following which the last date for nomination of papers and publication of nominated candidates is September 4 and publication of final list of candidates after withdrawal will be September 6.
