Kolkata: Two persons were arrested by the special task force (STF) of the Kolkata police with fake currencies worth Rs 10 lakhs from central Kolkata on Monday evening. The accused were Abdus Sattar (42), a resident of Kaliachak in Malda and Azad (52), a resident of Bharatpur in Rajasthan. At around 7.50 pm the two fake currency racketeers were caught by an STF team, on a tip-off from Canning Street in Burrabazar while they were trying to purchase some commodities in exchange of fake counterfeit notes.

While searching them, the STF officers found 500 notes of Rs 2,000 denomination totalling to Rs 10 Lakhs. The STF suspects that the duo were members of a racket, which has its roots in Malda. The investigators are also probing the route of smuggling fake notes to Rajasthan, since one of the accused is originally from there.
