Two transgender groups clash over cash distribution

New Delhi: A clash ensued in South West Delhi’s Najafgarh area between two groups of transgenders outside a police station, wherein five people were reported injured. The police said that the issue was over distribution of money.

The transgender groups based in Uttam Nagar and Palam clashed on August 16 outside the Najafgarh police station. The Palam-based group allegedly stopped the Uttam Nagar-based group from collecting dakshina (donation) in Najafgarh area, leading to a brawl, a senior police officer said.

Both the groups lodged cross-complaints alleging that they were being threatened by the other, the officer said.

In the meantime, the Uttam Nagar-based transgender group called the other group and soon after they entered into a brawl, leading to a clash outside the police station.

The police pacified the members of both groups. However, by then four transgenders of the Palam-based group and a driver were already injured in the scuffle. They were rushed to a nearby hospital and their statements were recorded later, the officer added.

Subsequently, the members of the Uttam Nagar-based group were detained, he said. During investigation, it surfaced that the two groups had altercated with each other in Uttam Nagar over the issue of money collection on August 12. They had quarrelled over the issue on earlier occasions too in Ranhola and Baba Haridas Nagar, he said.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered in connection with the incident.
