New Delhi: A 36-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband at their home in Northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden on Wednesday morning.

The police said that the husband suspected his wife Rekha of infidelity and suspected that she had extramarital affairs with a man. He stabbed her 35 time with a knife at their home after a brief verbal spat.

“The couple’s 15-year-old son, the sole eyewitness of the murder, too was attacked allegedly by his father when he attempted to save his mother. She died on the spot and the husband fled after the murder,” said a senior police official. The accused was arrested late on Wednesday night.

The teenager suffered stab wounds in his hand and arm. He was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital. His condition was stated to be stable. A case of murder was registered against the husband at the Seemapuri police station. The family lives in their first floor Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA’s) Janta flat.

The preliminary probe into the murder case, a police officer said, has revealed that the man, Vinod Bisht,46, suspected that his wife Rekha was having an extra marital affair. Sources said that a few days ago, Bisht had seen some objectionable messages in his wife’s mobile phone. The couple often had arguments and fights over the issue.

“Elder son Vineet tried to stop his father but he was also attacked with the knief. On this he screamed for help, Bisht panicked and fled,” said Nupur Prasad, DCP (Shahdara).
