Daughter-in-law plots attack on relatives

New Delhi: A day after an attack on a family of six members in Northwest Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy took place, the police has detained the family’s daughter-in-law and her paramour.

The police said that the accused has been identified as Abdul, paramour of Meenakshi, daughter-in-law of Narayani Devi and wife of Anup, who was attacked. The police said that Meenakshi, who got discharged from the hospital later in the evening, will formally be arrested on Thursday.

According to a senior police officer, Meenakshi was allegedly having an affair with Abdul. The family knew about their affair and had raised objections. However, their love blossomed further. The accused told the police that Meenakshi’s mother-in-law and her husband, Anup, were the main hindrance to their relationship. The duo decided to eliminate the mother and son so that they could live their lives happily. However, their plan turned awry when the police based on credible information, caught Abdul.

DCP Northwest Milind Dumbere said, “They objected to her affair. She and her friend thought that they are a hindrance to their relationship. The family knew about her affair, the two prominent members being her husband and mother-in-law. So, they planned the attack. After sunset, we need a permission from the magistrate to arrest her. That’s why she will be arrested tomorrow.”

The family lives in Jahangirpuri. The 75-year-old injured woman has been identified as Narayani Devi while her son Anup, who runs a transport business in Azadpur. The attack had taken place at around 5.30 am on Tuesday. The assailants easily managed to get inside the house as the doors were open.

According to a police official, the incident came to light when a relative came to the house and found Narayani Devi and Anup lying in a pool of blood with injury marks on their neck. As he went ahead to check on others, another son of Narayani Devi, his wife and children were lying in an unconscious state. He immediately raised an alarm following which neighbours rushed to the house and informed the police.
