Delhi: Travelling at night is still unsafe
The commuters often complain of overcharging. Some even look for lifts from strangers.
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro might have expanded its operations in the NCR, but Delhiites in the Capital still face a harrowing time while travelling at night.
The reason: No feeder buses, overcharging by shared auto drivers and fewer buses on the intercity routes, among many others issues.
Lack of public transport during the night time leaves commuters to rely on private transport facilities such as cab-hailing services and shared autos.
The commuters often complain of overcharging. Some even look for lifts from strangers.
Many also aired their concerns and feel unsafe while travelling in sharing autos as most of them are always overcrowded, and drivers seldom follow rules. Buses for the intercity routes hardly ply on the roads.
The poor service of metro feeder buses has also become a major concern for commuters.
“There is no proper bus service and people are being forced to take autos and cabs. Due to this, commuters are often left with no option than to share the autos,”said Yogesh Kant, a commuter said.
He also called for a proper transport system in place.
