Victim appears in court, police files charges

The police had booked accused Akhlesh Kumar on charges of assault a lady with the intent to outrage her modesty.

New Delhi: The Delhi police has slapped charges of wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation against an accused, who was recently arrested for attacking and molesting a lady journalist of this newspaper inside ITO Metro Station premises in the capital.

Investigations revealed that the accused, who has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody, had not only molested the journalist, he had also wrongfully restrained her movement and threatened to kill her, while she was struggling to get out of his clutches on the fateful night.

 

Initially, the police had booked accused Akhlesh Kumar on charges of assault a lady with the intent to outrage her modesty.

The victim also appeared before metropolitan magistrate Ambika Singh to get her statement recorded under Section 164 of the Cr.PC. As per the law, the statement has been put under a sealed cover and the same will be opened during the trail before a sessions court.

The entire sequence of assault and molestation has been captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the Metro station premises. It was on the basis of the CCTV footage that the police was able to catch the accused, who had attacked and molested a lady lawyer minutes before attacking the scribe.
