New Delhi: Two men, wearing traffic police uniforms, tried to rob a man outside AIIMS in South Delhi. The incident was reported on July 16 at around 12.15 pm on road opposite to AIIMS trauma centre.

A 39-year-old victim, who wishes not to be named, was on his way to Race Course in his Corolla Altis when the incident took place. When he reached near the AIIMS trauma centre, a man wearing traffic police uniform signalled him to stop. He stopped the car thinking that the two, who waylaid him, were traffic police personnel. They already stopped a WagonR car for checking at the same spot.

One of the men asked him to show his driving license and another men wearing traffic police uniform stood at the rear end of his car. The man standing near the victim asked for other car document and all of sudden, he pulled out a pistol and pointed towards him. He also snatched car keys. He then opened boot of his car and took away a grey-coloured bag that contained `3 lakh and several other important documents.

After picking up the bag, the man and his associate ran towards a motorcycle parked on the opposite side of the road. He also ran towards them and tried to snatch bag from them. They hit him on head with the pistol and threatened to shoot him, but he continued to counter them even after being hit badly on head.

“I resisted and finally got hold on my brief case. Duo fled from the spot on their motorcycle. They were in their mid 20s and wearing traffic police uniform,” said the victim.

He added that thereafter he informed the police that took him to AIIMS for treatment of head injury.

“A FIR under IPC Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 511 Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment was registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station. The case is under investigation. We are procuring CCTV of the area to get any clue in the case,” said Chinmoy Biswal, ADCP-I (South).
