New Delhi: Acting tough against employees going on leave citing poor health conditions, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has decided to conduct their health checkups at its own Hindu Rao Hospital. A decision in this regard was taken last week.

According to a senior NDMC official, in a recent meeting of the top leadership of the civic body it was decided that the medical examination of municipal employees will be conducted through Hindu Rao Hospital and action taken report will be prepared by the medical superintendent of the hospital.

The decision was taken on August 11 in a meeting between mayor Preety Agarwal, Leader of House Jayander Dabas, and the senior officials of NDMC.

“Lots of employees take leave for long durations citing his or her medical condition. After resuming duty they submit medical certificate issued by private medical professionals. Now onwards, their medical examination will be done by the doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital. Depending on the reports submitted by the Hindu Rao Hospital, decision will be taken whether the leave is genuinely required or not and a decision will be taken appropriately to sanction their medical leave,” he said.

The corporation also decided to initiate action against sanitation workers and other municipal employees who are not reporting on duty for long durations without informing the authority. “It has been decided that zonal deputy commissioners should identify such employees and send a list for action,” he added.

Sources said that strict action will force these employees to join duty and help the municipal corporation to deliver better civic services to the citizens. “Strict action will also send a strong message among other employees that they must do their duty sincerely as the authorities are not in the mood to tolerate nonsense,” said a senior civic official.
