2 autolifters held, 10 bikes recovered

NEW DELHI: To crack the whip against vehicle thieves in Southeast district, the Delhi police arrested a gang of two autolifters. The police team also recovered 10 stolen motorcycles.

Identified as Pankaj (27) and Pawan (24), the police arrested the two notorious habitual offenders who were out on bail recently and planned to lift vehicles in South and Southeast Delhi areas.

In view of a spurt in vehicle theft cases, the police worked relentlessly for days to get clues about the culprits involved in auto lifting in the area.

Finally, Assistant Sub Inspector Viju got received specific information about the movement of auto lifters Pankaj and Pawan on a stolen Scooty near Jal Vihar Road, Lajpat Nagar.

During sustained interrogation, accused Pawan revealed that he became addicted to liquor and ganja and in order to cdontinue with his habits, he started lifting motorcycles and autos, which Pawan used to commit snatchings ad robberies.

He has previously been arrested for robbery, snatching and theft. Released from the jail on July 24, he met Pankaj who also lives in a nearby locality.
