New Delhi: In one of the first rallies of his newly-formed Swaraj India, Yogendra Yadav accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making half-hearted attempts to tackle the issue of black money.

Mr Yadav, who heads the new political party, said that PM Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi are not keen on addressing the issue in the Parliament. Instead of addressing the problem of black money, BJP and Congress are involved in a tug-of-war over the note ban issue, he said.

Referring to black money as a 10-headed Ravan, Mr Yadav said that the demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes only removes one of the heads and to kill it, its navel — political corruption — needs to be attacked. Swaraj India said that the NDA-led government was equally insincere like the previous government of the UPA coalition in meeting the challenges of curbing black money.

The new political outfit said it plans to launch a nationwide campaign demanding reforms in rules governing political funding. It demanded that cash declarations by political parties till December 30 should be made public and subjected to a special audit.
