New Delhi: The sleuths of special cell have caught a 43-year-old arms supplier who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest. The accused used to supply arms and ammunitions to Naxals.

DCP (special cell) P.S. Kushwah said the team has arrested Sanjay Singh, a resident of Bhojpur, Bihar and recovered a cache of 22 cartridges of different calibre, including ammunition, used by the paramilitary and armed forces of the country.

The accused was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest as his name had cropped up in a sensitive investigation which had unearthed a major source of supply of prohibited bore cartridges to naxal outfits operating from Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.

Ram Singh who was arrested by staff in July with 407 illegal cartridges revealed that he had been roped into the syndicate by Sanjay.

Ram had disclosed that a part of the cache recovered from his possession was meant for onward supply to the naxals operating from the jungles of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra and Sanjay was the key link in this chain.

Following a tip-off on Sunday, Sanjay was arrested from his village and disclosed that he was involved in the business of obtaining prohibited bore cartridges through his contacts in the security forces for onward sale to criminals and anti-national forces.
