3 MCDs given Rs 109 crores to fight dengue, chikungunya
According to the government, the funds have been released following the direction of Arvind Kejriwal to the urban development department.
NEW DELHI: To counter vector-borne diseases, such as dengue and chikungunya in the ongoing monsoon season, the Delhi government has released Rs 109 crore to all three municipal corporations in the national capital.
According to the government, the funds have been released following the direction of Arvind Kejriwal to the urban development department. Mr Kejriwal directed the department to tell the BJP-led three municipal corporations — South, North and East — that there should be no excuse in dealing with dengue and chikungunya.
In a statement, the government said Mr Kejriwal directed the department to take all necessary steps to ensure proper utilisation of funds so that preventive steps are carried out.
Mr. Kejriwal has also directed the department to strictly inform the three MCDs that maintenance of public health is their mandatory function as defined in the Delhi Municipal Corporations (DMC) Act, and when more than the required amount is being provided, there should now be no excuse in effectively dealing with the vector borne diseases.
North and East MCDs have been given Rs 57.15 crore and Rs 28.4 crore respectively while South Delhi Municipal Corporation got Rs 23.57 crore under the health head.
