New Delhi: Taking a serious note of the encroachment on 29 arterial roads in the national capital, the Delhi police top brass has directed the district DCPs (deputy commissioner of police) to personally ensure the removal of encroachments on roads in their respective areas. The department will take strict action against those beat/division officers who fail to get the encroachments removed from their respective areas.

Sources said that on July 6, a meeting was held in which the special commissioner of police (law and order, north) informed that the urban department of government of national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi has filed an affidavit in the Delhi high court regarding encroachment of 29 arterial roads. It has also to be ensured that no re-encroachment takes place on these roads.

The commissioner of police (CP) directed the district DCPs that they should personally ensure implementation of the directive on the ground. He added that in case any re-encroachment comes to notice, strict disciplinary action will be taken against the concerned beat/division officers.

The officers were also directed to ensure strict compliance in their respective jurisdiction on the above points and to keep the action taken points ready for the next meeting.

In the meeting, district-wise crime was also discussed and suitable directions were given to the DCPs of the districts to improve performance both in prevention and detection of crime.

“The joint commissioner of police (crime) apprised all present of the status of crime and criminal tracking networks and systems (CCTNS) data. The CP emphasised that this is an important project as it is closely monitored by the ministry of home affairs. He directed that trained staff should be engaged for data entry and the additional DCP-1 of the district should personally check CCTNS data of each police station and ensure that correct data is fed and kept up-to-date,” said the sources.
